Potentially Avoidable Days

Audit of 50 Primary Total Hip Replacement Records at five hospitals. Potentially avoidable days (PADs) ranged from 18 – 33%. The greatest causes of PADs were:

  • Timely access to inpatient rehabilitation when the patient was clinical stable for transfer, and
  • Discharge home when the patient had achieved both clinical and mobility outcomes to be safe for discharge

Audit of 50 Transurethral Resection of the Prostate records at four hospitals demonstrated large variation in the quality and comprehensives of documentation.

 

 

Variation in Achievement of Key Milestone

Audit of 50 Fractured Neck of Femur records at three sites. Indicator: Pain management given within 30mins of presentation to Emergency Department (ED). Findings at three hospitals show that this indicator was achieved for only 18-35% of patients
